Toto Foods - Birthday cookie
Toto’s birthday cookie
After reading the background story of this brand, you really want to like the cookie. Behind the brand is the story of a woman who struggled with health issues and eventually was diagnosed with Chrone’s disease. As you can see in the picture, I tried the Birthday cookie. However, I really disliked the taste of this cookie. To me there was no flavor. I did not like the texture and the cookie was hollow inside (which I did not expect compared to the price of the product). The only flavor I got out of it was salt and not in a good way. To me, it was overly salty. I have to note that I normally eat a low sodium diet but never encountered a problem with that by eating one (as in this case), or eating a few cookies in a row. I haven’t tried any of the other flavors and maybe this one was a little old. So I can’t be sure, but the version I tasted I cannot recommend to anyone. What, for me, is a plus about this cookie is that it is plant-based, so it is milk free, which, for me, means I don’t have to search for my lactose pills in my bag, which I probably forgot to take with me anyway. Besides that, I think the packaging of the cookie is really fun, bright and in line with what you expect when one buys a birthday cookie. But in this case, the packaging makes the cookie look way better than it actually is (to me it looked rather tasty on the packaging but in reality it really wasn’t) and I think that makes one even more disappointed. They have several other flavors which I haven’t tried out but will of course taste different. If you would like to try one out for yourself click and buy the product via this link and I will earn a small commission if you buy the product. This cookie is also available in the US in several supermarkt chains, e.g. at the Sprouts Farmers Market for $3,99.
Safety: Labeled as gluten-free, not a official celiac logo but following the FDA guidelines the product should contain less than 20 p.p.m of gluten.
