Maastricht – Natuurlijk! Charlotte

Maastricht is a city in the south of the Netherlands. Bordering Belgium to the west and close to Germany to the east, it is a beautiful city with many lovely squares. The most well-known? The Vrijthof, of Andre Rieu’s summer concerts fame. Coincidentally, I found out there was a gluten free bakery and shop near the Vrijthof. Located in the same street as arguably the most beautiful book store in the Netherlands (the Boekhandel Dominicanen which is located in a church) you could find Natuurlijk! Charlotte. Here you could buy all kinds of organic, vegan, and gluten free deliciousness. Their pecan pie was sold at more than eighty Bagels & Beans chain stores throughout the Netherlands to which they now provide their no bake caramel bar instead. You can safely say they established a name through this and at the same time it means you can try Natuurlijk! Charlotte also at one of the Bagels & Beans locations.

Natuurlijk! Charlotte switched to a solely online store where you can buy their entirely gluten free pastries and cakes there for delivery. The Maastricht store was rebranded (with the same owner) as Mayple Golden Cakes. It still offers an organic, vegan, and gluten free assortment. When I visited a few months ago, it was still known as Natuurlijk! Charlotte. I bought the organic apricot crumble (€4,00), the organic no bake pecan pie (€4,00), and the organic banana bread (€4,00 or €8,50 for a large). I was in Maastricht for business and had to take everything with me on the train, but they tasted great nonetheless. Jilly is a huge fan of banana bread, but her favourite of the three was the pecan pie. Definitely worth checking out Natuurlijk! Charlotte online or visiting Mayple Golden Cakes when you are in Maastricht. Visit their website if you would like to try one of their many gluten-free cakes or pastries: https://natuurlijkcharlotte.nl/.
